Stretch marks can appear after pregnancy, weight changes, growth spurts, or changes in muscle size. And while they’re completely normal, many people look for inexpensive ways to make them less noticeable.
One popular home remedy claims that crushing aspirin tablets and applying them to the skin can erase stretch marks in just seven days.
But can a common painkiller really make those lines disappear?
There is no scientific evidence that applying aspirin removes stretch marks in seven days—or that it is an effective treatment for stretch marks at all.
1. Why Do Stretch Marks Appear?
Stretch marks, medically known as striae, develop when the skin stretches or shrinks relatively quickly.
This can disrupt collagen and elastin, two important components that help skin maintain its structure.
They commonly appear on the abdomen, thighs, hips, breasts, and upper arms.
Newer stretch marks may look pink, red, purple, or darker than the surrounding skin. Older marks often become lighter and less noticeable.
Although they can fade naturally, they don’t always disappear completely.
